The Allosaurus (AL-uh-SAWR-us) is one of the Creatures in ARK: Survival Evolved.
Basic Info
Dossier
- Wild: Smaller but faster than Tyrannosaurus, larger but slower than Carnotaurus, Allosaurus therotribus is the island's resident pack-hunting theropod. While most aggressive theropods are relatively solitary creatures, Allosaurus lives in groups of 3-4. One Allosaurus is the Alpha, while the others are its mates or a beta male.
- Known Information: Like humans find value in forming a tribe, the Allosaurus has evolved to hunt in packs. Its saw-shaped teeth leave its prey bleeding and maimed, making escape difficult. Once an Allosaurus slows a creature with its cutting bite, the rest of its pack quickly close in for the kill...
- Domesticated: Not everyone thinks a tamed Allosaurus is ideal. Those who value speed generally tame Carnotaurus, while those who value raw stopping power tame Tyrannosaurus. However, riders of Allosaurus tend to value the utility of its Alpha pack status, which along with its bleed-inducing attacks and relative mobility, can effectively turn the tide of a combined arms battle.
Behavior
Pack
Allosaurs always spawn in packs of 3, but packs will merge if they encounter each other. As long as a pack has 3 or more Allosaurs in it, the highest level one will receive a pack boost, which can be identified by a glowing red aura, similar to that of an Alpha Predator. The pack boost applies to both wild and tamed Allosaurs and provides the following benefits:
- Damage buff from 35 to 47
- An extra attack (default Rmb) that slows the target and does bleeding damage
- The ability to roar while mounted on alpha (default C)
Appearance
To the untrained eye, an Allosaurus looks like a smaller Tyrannosaurus, but closer inspection reveals key differences. An Allosaurus possesses small crests over its eyes, a blunt skull, and larger arms with three fingers. They can often be spotted fairly easily by looking for the red aura surrounding the pack leader (although take care that you haven't actually spotted an Alpha Predator).
The Allosaurus's information is currently unknown, because it is unreleased and not yet in the game.

Preferred Food
KO Strategy
The Allosaurus has high torpor, similar to a Rex, but it tames fast if you can knock it out. The best way to knock out an Allosaurus is to single one out, or to get on a giant rock. Be careful not to kill the others while taming it though, because a lone Allosaurus will run around attempting to find another group. Be careful, as higher levels are easy to kill with Bows and Crossbows if you do not pause between shots.
Combat
This section describes how to fight against the Allosaurus.
General
Don't attempt to take out the pack leader first - take out the others and it will lose its pack leader status. If the pack has 4 or more in it, then killing the pack leader will just promote a different one.
Strategy
Weaponry
It is not recommended to take on a pack of Allosaurs unless you have a pack of creatures yourself.
Dangers
A single Allosaurus is dangerous. A pack of Allosaurs is deadly. Their jack-of-all-trades approach to speed and power along with the pack mentality will mean taking on a group is foolish if approached like a straight fight.

Notes/Trivia
For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Allosaurus, see the relevant Wikipedia article.
- The dossier was revealed on 08/26/15 [1]
- The dossier implies that the Allosaurus is also getting an alpha boost similar to the Direwolf.
- Real-life Allosaurus had a weak bite, but a reinforced skull and powerful neck muscles. Some paleontologists have argued that they used their upper jaw as a hatchet, incapacitating their prey with repeated blows.
