The Dodo is one of the creatures in ARK: Survival Evolved. It is mostly used as a sort of 'chicken', making a large amount of eggs that can be eaten for a large amount of nourishment.
Basic Info
Dossier
- Wild: Raphus replicare (more commonly known as the Dodo Bird) is quite possibly the dumbest creature I've ever seen in my life. It wanders around the beaches of the island, eating berries off bushes and being eaten by all manner of carnivore. Without the Dodo the whole Island's food chain would disintegrate.
- Domesticated: There is almost no reason to domesticate a Raphus replicare. It cannot carry enough to be a beast of burden, it does not provide much food, and it's too stupid to show companionship. I suppose it could work as a last-ditch food source, though.
- Known Information: This subspecies of the Dodo has developed an unbelievably clever way to sustain itself: they mate constantly. I'm fairly convinced that they reach full maturity within a week of being born. This is the only trait keeping them populous on the island.
Behavior
Dodos are basically the chickens of the ARK, they will waddle around at an abysmal movement speed with no intentions, and have very little health. When a Dodo is attacked, it will not fight back. Instead, it and nearby Dodos will attempt to flee, though their slow movement speed usually makes them easy prey. If the player takes an egg from a wild Dodo, however, it will attack. Dodos will also occasionally get stuck on driftwood.
Appearance

Preferred Food
- Mejoberry : 10-30
- Citronal : 10-30 [citation needed]
KO Strategy
Dodos are easy to tame, you can easily knock them out with your fists or by using a slingshot to the head.
Notes/Trivia
- Because of the amount of eggs they produce, some tribes actually have Dodo farms where they keep multiple domesticated Dodos in an enclosed area to collect any eggs they lay.
- The dossier for the Dodo makes the mistake of naming the species as "Raphus lazarus" under the Domesticated section.
- In the dossier it says they are oblivious, but in real life the island they lived on had no natural predators so they didn't know how to react to a hunter.
- Even though it says they aren't rideable, there is a slot in their inventory for a saddle.
- Their walking speed is terrible which makes it hard to move them around. However, they have a decent swim speed which can be used to cover larger distances quicker. The best way to move them is still to pick them up with a flyer.
- A 1:1 male:female ratio is not required for the mate boost. You can have 10 females and one male and still be able to produce eggs. If you plan to place them in a pen with wandering then you may want another male depending on the size of your pen to keep females within the mate boost range.
