Dossier

The text is written by the creator in the perspective of an in game survivor.

Wild)

"I have seen few to no beasts in the deep oceans as dangerous as Tylosaurus. Upon safe observation from a distance, it's easy to tell that they're a serious threat for aquatic expeditions and are keen to tear apart and devour fish of any kind while hungry. They are quite fast moving and comparable to the powerful Elasmosaurus, and utilize speed and charging abilities to make short work of their prey. They will also scavenge the shores for drowned terrestrial prey. It's fairy easy to tell where Tylosaurus are hunting given the massive clouds of blood that can be seen from the surface. Spyglasses will magnify the scene of a hunt that leaves little remains when the Mosasaur is done with them. I have noticed an unusual characteristic, is that Tylosaurus have adapted and evolved off of their piscivorous diet and allowed it to rapidly heal themselves, which contributes supremely to their survival. I have almost never seen them in groups and they're mostly solitary, being in twos or threes occasionally. They clearly don't need it and can survive through the deadliest confrontations, making them a remarkable aquatic weapon for tribal humans."

Domesticated)

"Tribes that base themselves in dangerous oceanic habitats do not hesitate to utilize this animal's incredible speed. They have tremendous attack capabilities against hostile fish and healing makes raiding and siege significantly easier. The only problem is that they are rare and soldiers of marine tribes will fight to the death over taming this war machine. Tribes of individuals will not only travel and transport, but utilize the speed of Tylosaurus to make devastating charges and ambush assaults towards hostile creatures and enemies in the deep blue sea."

Behavior

Wild Tylosaurus are capable of taking and dealing damage against any wild fish, and they will aggressively hunt any fish. Tylosaurus are capable of dealing damage towards tames but will only behave aggressive towards fish. They are seen rarely around oceans close to the shallows and sometimes closer to the shore and will also scavange by shorelines for terrestrial prey that are killed. When attacking fish, Tylosaurus will release enormous clouds of blood that will turn the water red in the shallows, making them easy to locate when they spawn. Wild Tylosaurus will utilize their first secondary skill of charging at prey, which will produce a yellow flash from their jaws when they strike and prey, thus producing a large blood cloud. Tylosaurus are fast moving and agile, their movement comparable to Elasmosaurus.

Appearance

Tylosaurus are Mosasauroids and share similar anatomy to their larger relatives. A defining characteristics is their shark like tail fluke. Their vertebrae goes into the fin on the lower fluke while the one on top acts like a sail. Since the lower fluke points down it gives the appearance of a shark tail. Tylosaurus are also smaller and have a bulkier body to the proportional size of their head and tail than a Mosasaurus.

Color Schemes

Tylosaurus mostly spawn in a constant shade with the ridged scales on their back being a darker color than the rest of their body. They commonly spawn in green, blue, and torquise to suit their environment with the occasional red and orange.

Melee Abilities

Melee Bite: (Left Click on PC/ Right press on Mobile): Bite deals 75 units of damage, animation is similar to Mosasaurus. Moves head briefly back and bites. Tylosaurus is capable of healing by 30% of it's maximum health for every fish it kills, making it one of the most effective healing abilities in ARK. 15% of this healing amount is distributed to tames. They also have a 20% damage boost for attacking fish.

Depth Charge: (Right click on PC/ Swipe Up on Mobile): Tylosaurus will charge at target like the Coelodonta and Triceratops. They can steer while charging but the charge cannot be reversed once it starts, and will only go for 5-7 seconds before stopping. When a target is

struck while performing the charge, a yellow glow will flash from the Tylosaurus' jaws, producing an large cloud of blood that will blind humans and tames in the wild(this doesn't happen with tamed Tylosaurus as the cloud is much smaller) Tylosaurus can stun any animal the charge touches(except for large curbstomping animals) for ten seconds. Healing generation will increase briefly if target is killed using this move. The charge will produce 100 damage and increase by 10 for every meter it travels. The farther away the target is, the more damage you will deal.

Dive Bomb: (motioning downward): Tylosaurus is capable of dive bombing underwater. You must point downward, and the Tylosaurus will automatically pick up speed and dart towards the seafloor. When you let go of the hold they will stop and you can swim normally, picking up speed from the stunt. Tylosaurus that drop to the sea floor will deal massive damage of 150 damage. They will also kick dust into the surrounding water but it will not blind the player.

Death Animation

Tylosaurus will motion backwards and growl in struggle.

Combat

General

Tylosaurus in the wild are only aggressive towards fish so there is nothing to worry about. However if you do get into a confrontation they are hard to kill due to their immense speed. The only option would be using a long range weapon while on an Ichthyosaurus. Heavy hitting mounts can finish them if they put up a fight. It's recommended to avoid them when they charge at you at all costs, as the great distance will inflict more damage towards weaker mounts.

Weakness

Tylosaurus generally don't have weaknesses due to their perfect adaptive nature to their biome. Fast, hard hitting mounts like Elasmosaurus and Mosasaurus will stand a chance but higher level Tylosaurus with better stunning moves will overwhelm. They are fortunately not aggressive to non-fish of any kind.

Taming

Tylosaurus are tamed through standard knockout. It's ill advised to approach them with fish of any kind. Best to mount an Ichthyosaurus and shoot tranqs, however they move faster than Elasmosaurus and will make short work if they use their charge on you. Their charge ability doesn't dismount but it still stuns. Wild Tylosaurus have little chance of death since they heal quickly so long as there are fish, and it won't affect torpor. Finding them and knocking them out is difficult, but their torpor doesn't drop too fast and will take around 2-3 minutes to fully drop. They are also found near the shallows and close to shore, where there are little threats and it is easier to trap them. If you're lucky to find them close to shore you can mount a Beelzebufo or Sarcosuchus to lure them close to a beach and feed them properly. They prefer to eat fish meat but the effectiveness isn't too much bigger than regular meat. Wild Tylosaurus are docile towards humans and tames and will approach with curiosity, but if attacked they will turn hostile and will automatically attack you if you are with any tamed fish. Note that wild Tylosaurus are quite fast and will flee if torpor gets high.

Utility

  • Fish Killer- Tylosaurus recieves a damage buff of 15% when attacking fish and heals by thirty percent of it's total health for every one it kills, making them the perfect weapon to combat enemy fish.
  • Tame Healer- Tylosaurus is one of if not the most powerful healer in all of ARK and gains and distributes immense health from slaying fish.
  • Travel- Tylosaurus is one of if not the fastest creature in ARK's waters, rivaled only by the likes of Ichthyosaurus and Mosasaurus. Their dive bomb ability will make them even faster momentarily.
  • Siege and Combat- Tylosaurus are the perfect underwater combatants, their charge ability when used properly can dismantle the most leveled mounts and render them immobile, and their speed and healing will keep fellow allies alive.
  • Gathering- Tylosaurus has no problem making assaults at fish on the sea floor, and their charge abilities will quickly finish a foe with no problem.
  • Raft Protector- A group of Tylosaurus can finish attacking Leedsichthys quickly, but they may also risk straying off with the charge.
  • Caving- Given their powerful melee abilities and buffs, Tylosaurus make excellent and agile mounts in threat infested caves.

Trivia

  • This is the first creature to use another modded creature's saddle and the second to use another mod's content, the first being Gorgosaurus eating the Apex Egg Kibble for taming.
  • There are existing modded Tylosaurus in the Wild ARK and Jurassic Park Expansion mods.
  • Wild Tylosaurus do not inflict bleed but produce enormous blood clouds when attacking prey.
  • Wild Tylosaurus do not attack Xiphactinus, as they use the same teamclass.
  • Tylosaurus are the first creatures to be Selective Apex Aquatic in Anthropalyptic Creations.
  • The Tylosaurus creating blood clouds are inspired by the documentary series Walking With Sea Monsters, in which the host Nigel Marven observes an enormous blood cloud caused by a predator attack in the water involving Mosasaurids. This and the image in the dossier of the Tylo attacking a Megalodon is a reference to the Tylosaurus in the documentary Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure in which they hunted Cretoxyrhinas.
  • Tylosaurus is the first aquatic creature in the collection to charge and stun as well as divebomb in the water.
  • The Tylosaurus being capable of attacking animals at the ocean floor and creating a dust cloud in the process is inspired by the Anomalocaris in Walking With Monsters.
  • Tylosaurus will only receive the healing and damage buff for fish and no other marine animal, not even cephalopods or mollusks.
  • This Tylosaurus is over three times the length of the real one.
  • Tylosaurus cannot stun Curbstomping creatures.
  • Wild Tylosaurus don't attack humans unless they're with tamed fish of any kind, which is why they're still considered dangerous.
  • The species name is the Latin term for "shore", as they were initially planned to spawn close to coasts.
  • The name for their charge ability is the same as the title of a season 1 Avengers Assemble episode.
