Habitat

The Morellatops, also known by the nickname Camelsaurus, is one of the Creatures in Scorched Earth expansion pack.

Basic Info

Dossier

  • Wild: Morellatops dromedarius seems to be a relative of both the Morelladon and Ceratops genuses, which in itself is rather strange. On top of that, it has developed to ability to store water in its humps like a camel. This makes it a critical part of the desert's food chain, as it provides predators with both food and hydration.
  • Domesticated: When survivors discovered how to tap into the water in Morellatops humps without harming it, the docile creature became the desert's essential pack animal. Not only can it carry a good amount of weight, but it can provide survivors with a large, mobile water source that can mean the difference between life and death on any given journey.
  • Known Information: Morellatops has limited options when it comes to self defense, so I would not recommend taking one into combat. However, so long as survivors don't forget to let Morellatops stop by a well every now and then, they will find the creature an invaluable companion.

Behavior

The Morellatops is a passive creature, but with at least one other specimen around they become defensive. A pack of Morellatops - if provoked - attacks until all members but one are dead, the last survivor will try to retreat.

Appearance

The Morellatops appears to have the hump of the Iguanodontid: Morelladon, and the face of a Ceratopsian dinosaur. It has ridges of protofeathers going down its sides, and also has bony lumps placed throughout the body. Note that this is not a real dinosaur so there is no scientifically accurate counterpart.

Notes/Trivia

  • Players can acquire water from its sail-back when needed.
  • It actually isn't a real dinosaur, but was invented by the developers, which the dossier said as combination of "Morelladon", an iguanodontian and "Ceratops", a ceratopsian, which are not closely related, this combination also form its generic name.
  • Its specific name dromedarius refers to its resemblance to camel, specifically dromedary (one-humped) camel, which they share the same species name.
