The North East Cave is a cave in the northeast of The Island, on an island known as The Dead Island or "Carno Island". This short cave consists primarily of an open, towering room with a narrow pathway spiraling downwards toward the  Artifact of the Devourer, which is needed to summon the  Megapithecus.

Dangers[]

  • Big Drops
  • Narrow Pathways
  • Cold (-5° C throughout)
  • Swarms of Onycs

Recommended creatures[]

  •  Thylacoleos can deal large amounts of damage to bats. Thylas also have a climbing ability, albeit this will not help you escape many sections of the cave.
  •  Terror Birds can glide to the bottom of the cave immediately, but it may struggle to fend off the enemies at the bottom of the pit.
  •  Enforcers are skilled climbers, bat killers, and can teleport. This makes them a very useful mount for caving, though one would need a powerful enforcer to hold its own.
  •  Shadowmanes can make this cave trivial thanks to their super-jump (which can nearly reach the topmost ledge from the bottom), good damage, and natural defense. Likely due to a bug, they also receive the Hydrated bonus no matter where they are in the cave, which only increases their efficacy. Unfortunately, a  Cryopod is needed to get them past the first tight squeeze.

Tips[]

  • There is a small section of water just after the entrance to the cave. Nothing spawns inside and it is brief enough that a survivor with default oxygen can swim the gap with ease.
  • The fastest way down is by using a  Parachute or  Grappling Hook. However, many  Onyc,  Pulmonoscorpius,  Araneos spawn at the bottom of the bit. Try to land on a ledge out of reach of the land-dwelling creatures so you can shoot them from a safe distance.
  • The spiral pathway is spotted with gaps. All of these jumps, heading both up and down, can be made on foot if you are careful.
  •  Bug Repellant will make this cave much easier. You will lower the aggro radius of some creatures, namely  Onyc.
  •  Mesopithecus Dossier is on the outside of the ruined structure that contains the artifact, on the corner facing the ramp back up.
  •  Megalosaurus Dossier is at the bottom of the pit about halfway back from the artifact.
  •  Mosasaurus Dossier is found on a ledge (not part of the main walkway) above the artifact ruins on the right side. It is very easy to miss. There is a simple guide in the image gallery.

 Carnotaurus Limited Yes
  •  Potential problems moving through water section, and some jumps are one-way or impossible.

Notes[]

  • If you bring a dino that can not jump and it falls it will be unable to escape the cave without building escape ramps or using a cryopod
  • While you can use a tame to swim to the island, there are often the  Cnidaria and  Megalodon in the water that can make quick work of you and your dino. A better choice would be to take a raft, or fly over with your cave mount being either carried or within a cryopod.
  • It is possible for players to bring their sabers in to farm chitin however the reward is often not worth the risk. There is a lot of maneuvering that requires foundations and ramps and players are extremely likely to die if they fall.
  • Cave does not exist on mobile
