The Parasaurolophus (par-ah-SAWR-OL-uh-fus) or Parasaur is one of the Dinosaurs in ARK: Survival Evolved.
Basic Info
Dossier
- Wild: Parasaurolophus amphibio has some of the more interesting adaptions of all Creatures I've seen on the Island. Like all parasaur it has a signature head ridge. Very docile at first, I've often been able to approach them without complaint. If startled, however, the Parasaur immediately runs - very far and very fast.
- Domesticated: As a relatively simple creature to domesticate, Parasaurolophus amphibio is one of the most common mounts I've yet seen on the island. Its ability to run fairly fast for lengthy intervals makes it a solid mode of medium-range transportation, though it has almost no ability to defend itself or its rider.
- Known Information: This species of parasaur seems to have a previously "disproved" use for its ridge. Small openings at the top of the ridge allow it to be used as a snorkel. This is unique to Parasaurolophus amphibio, as is their surprising speed in the water.
Behavior
Parasaurs are one of the passive dinosaurs, and will not fight back even when attacked unless you take one of their eggs. However, the Parasaur is one of the fastest sprinting dinosaurs in the ARK, and can be tricky to catch.
Appearance
A large, bipedal dinosaur, the Parasaur is well-known for its long, arching head crest and duck bill. They most often appear as variations of red and green, oftentimes with vibrant, red, white, or yellow spines.

Roles
- Transport: While not able to carry as many supplies as larger creatures, Parasaurs are a good beginner's pack animal.
- Travel: Parasaurs are a good mount for a starting player. While much slower than a Raptor or Sabretooth, they are faster than the Phiomia. Consider leveling only speed and some oxygen.
- Gatherer: Parasaurs can farm Berries, and farm Wood and Thatch.

Notes/Trivia
- The Parasaurolophus is part of a group of dinosaurs known as hadrosaurs.
- Parasaurolophus's crest was said to be used as a sort of "horn" to warn other parasaurolophus. The crest was also said to be put into a notch on its back while running through brush to prevent the crest from getting stuck on branches.
- The name of the Parasaurolophus means approximately "Near crested lizard that is amphibious", a reference to its surprising water speed.
