Basic Info[]
Dossier[]
This section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature.
Gryphon magnificum
TimeUnknown
DietCarnivore
TemperamentAggressive
- Wild
Gryphon magnificum is undoubtedly a sight to behold. Many ancient myths tell of various depictions of the Griffin over the ages, but what is never disputed is its majestic and mysterious nature. With the front half of an eagle and the back half of a lion, it is as if these two creatures somehow fused together to form a superior land and air predator. While one's first instinct might be to approach the creature and marvel at its beauty, that would be a very poor decision. Its range of attacks makes it one of the more versatile predators I've witnessed. If its presence alone isn't enough to intimidate potential hunters, it has the ability to dive from the sky to the ground with such force that it inflicts damage to anyone unfortunate enough to be below it, or carry its momentum back into a rapid uplift.
- Domesticated
The idea of pacifying such a beast is nothing to scoff at. Its highly independent nature and disinterest with interacting with humans combined with its power and strength make the Griffin a challenge to domesticate. However, there have been those who are fearless enough to attempt and succeed at this miraculous feat. Once tamed, riding atop a Griffin along with a tribemate passenger, dashing through the air at high speed, is a prize in and of itself.
Behaviour[]
Many fly around Far's Peak awaiting a respectable survivor.
Appearance[]
It is a hybrid with a lion's body, tail, and two hind legs, and with the wings, head, and talons on the two front legs of an Eagle. The females are noticeably larger.
Color Scheme and Regions[]
This section displays the Royal Griffin's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Royal Griffin. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Royal Griffin will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.
This information can be used to alter the Royal Griffin's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID>
in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6
would color the Royal Griffin's "wings and main body" magenta.

Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Combat[]
This section describes how to fight a Royal Griffin.
General[]
They fly around the mountain, occasionally landing. Most of the time they can be found at the base of the mountain, usually with several partners, but they can be found alone as well.
Strategy[]
Probably the best way to tame or kill a Griffin is by building a trap out of 5 dinosaur gateways and 2 gates at each end. From there, it can be tranquilized or killed.
Weaponry[]
Ranged weapons such as Guns or Bows work nicely. They can do a good amount of damage if the survivor is not respected by them.
Danger[]
They do lots of damage to survivors that aren’t respected by them.
Weakness[]
If the survivor is respected, the Royal Griffin does reduced damage to the survivor.
Taming[]
Note that the values are for optimal cases, always bring extra supplies!
For a level-dependent count of resources needed, try an external taming calculator.
Preferred Food[]
Griffin Kibble is more effective to tame a Royal Griffin than Allosaurus Kibble.
Taming Strategy[]
One way to tame it is to have 4-5 × Stone Dinosaur Gateways and 2 × Reinforced Dinosaur Gates (4-5 × Dinosaur Gateways and 2 × Dinosaur Gates will work too but Royal Griffins can damage wood), place the gates close enough to each other so nothing can get out, then put the doors on both of the outer gateways, when you are flying on a mount make sure there is enough distance to fly above the trap then land behind it quickly, if done correctly the Griffin is likely to be trapped. Then KO it with Tranq darts or arrows. Use Soothing Balm for good taming and instant tame with Griffin Kibble.
A level 300 eats 5 Griffin Kibble with 10× Soothing Balm. A level 437 eats 8 Griffin Kibble with 10× Soothing Balm. A level 18 eats 9 Allosaurus Kibble with 15× Soothing Balm. A level 28 eats 17 Allosaurus Kibble with 10× Soothing Balm. A level 10 eats 7 Allosaurus kibble with 10x Soothing Balm. (Note that these are self-tested values on normal server settings)
Royal Griffins will refuse to eat the given food if the survivor is not respected.
A way to get griffin kibble without using the egg itself is by using using a tek kibble processor, use 2 therizino kibble for one griffin kibble. A chef station is also a good way of getting Allosaurus kibble.
Utility[]
Roles[]
Air Tamer: A unique thing about the Griffin is that you can use a weapon while riding them, and refill stamina in air, which can be useful for difficult tames like a Giga or a Quetzal.
Fast travel:[]
Its diving ability makes the Griffin one of the fastest creatures in the game, which can be useful for travelling across the map.
Battle creature:[]
The Griffin's dive attacks deal a large amount of damage and can be used to kill powerful land creatures that are unable to attack it.

Notes/Trivia[]
For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Royal Griffin, see the relevant Wikipedia article.
- Royal Griffins can only breed with Royal Griffins of the same house. Houses can be distinguished by the last 3 letter of the name.
- To ride and tame a Royal Griffin, one must be respected. This can be achieved in 3 different ways:
- Having the survivor levelled 95 or over.
- Wearing a Gold Crown.
- Sharing the same surname as the Royal Griffin as well as having the survivor levelled over 40.
- A list of surnames is as follows:
- -mir
- -mu
- -zar
- -ys
- -yss
- -ra
- -'i
- -an
- -ric
- -lot
- -na
- -ell
- -on
- -go
- -gast
- -den
- -ssa
- Griffins also have first names, although unlike surnames, they are purely cosmetic.
- Unlike other baby creatures, baby Griffin must be close to its mother, or a female tamed/bred Griffin with the same surname as itself. Otherwise, it will refuse to eat any meat from its inventory or trough.
- Royal Griffins are one of two Creatures in ARK: Survival Evolved Mobile that spawns with a distinguished name rather than being "Griffin" when spawned, the other being the Unicorn. All other creatures spawns with their species name.
- Enforcer, while they do not spawn in the game, carries a distinguished name as well, in the form of a serial number. However, it only appears when they are tamed.
- Royal Griffins can still do damage to survivors that they respect. It’s just reduced damage.
- Unlike most creatures, Royal Griffins cannot be killed, spayed/neutered.
- If you unclaim a griffin, it will turn into a wild one instead of dying.
- They are very expensive to tame even with a soothing balm and Griffin Kibble
2 Has two seats available on it.
3 Can only breed with Royal Griffins that share the same surname.
