I need to talk to you or someone else[]

Hi Flachdachs it's been a long time I hope that you will have the chance to talk to me. Something has happened on here and well things aren't being handled well after what happened. I want the hole thing settled in a good calm way but I don't think that is going to happen. So I see the ice Golem info was taken down. Which makes no since considering they were released with the latest patch on Ragnarok. There are even plenty of new screenshots of tamed ones on Arks steam community page. So why take down something that is true?

Egg laying and starting the egg calculation routine[]

Hey Flachdach!

I was just wondering if you had any idea if the egg routine you mentioned in the Eggs article restarts every time it gets interrupted by stasis. How do you think we could test that? I'm at a loss! --LordMaligno (talk) 09:09, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

According to my singleplayer experience. Stay a while in the area and see how many or few eggs will be laid on average in this time. Then collect all eggs, eat them, put in a fridge, whatever, and leave this area far enough, at least out of render distance, for a much shorter time. When you return you will often see a lot of more new eggs than usually was laid in this time when you were around. But sometimes you only see a lot of new poop. This behavior was confirmed or told by one of the devs. I don't remember the source though. --Flachdachs (talk) 09:24, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Hey, I just wanted to say something on this, because in Ark: Survival Evolved Mobile, I just discovered a creature that isn’t on this wiki whatsoever. It’s called a Kriloys, and it appeared to be some sort of eagle-lion hybrid. It flew around and killed aggressively. It then attacked me and my Tapejara killed it at a very high altitude and I never retrieved the body. The description stated: Kriloys - Lvl 9: 750/750 Does not respect you Gender: female

tribe vs server category?[]

You moved Tribe:PVE-OfficialServer38 to category tribe. This page is not for tribe information, it is for server specific information on that server. What is the reasoning for moving it to tribe? We don't have a namespace for Server. What information about a specific server can you give other than what describes how the players interact with each other? So it is not a topic of the game itself, i.e. no justification to be in the main namespace, and it is also more or less tribe related. For now this page is fine in the Tribe namespace. Maybe we decide in the future that a separate namespace gives any advantage then we will reorganize it. --Flachdachs (talk) 07:11, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Personally, I don't like the idea of having pages for servers. It's something that will be impossible to keep updated, and it's subject to a lot of hearsay and vandalism.

Regarding Icons[]

How did you managed to get them? I couldn't find any ways of extracting the uasset files containing the icon (And I don't have Unreal Engine to edit it), so I am rather curious. Vaculity (talk) 16:40, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Bone Rex and Bone Raptor Spawn Codes[]

I changed the class names of the Bone Rex and Bone Raptor Costumes to a class name that could be spawned in on Xbox One because the original codes were censored by Xbox One and would not work. You reverted the change saying: "that's not how it works. back to the real item ids"

I'm not quite sure what you mean because the original codes are censored on Xbox One, the original codes do not work on Xbox One, the new codes I entered do work on Xbox One, and there was no option from what I saw to add a second code.

You found a way to use the GFI command. That's right and the intended way of using it. You need a significant part of the blueprint path, and the class name is part of the blueprint path. This part can even be that way that you can't easily recognize which item it belongs to. E.g. y_n is a part of Narcoberry's blueprint path and it is currently significant enough that no other item of the vanilla game uses this character sequence.
You have a problem with Xbox One, maybe also the PS4 has a similar problem, but in the PC version there is no censoring. The GiveItem command doesn't work for you, but is does work for PC. However the Xbox's problem does not affect the class name. If you change the class name then is not the class name anymore. Also the class name is used in other situations (e.g. configuration), so it has to be correct, not only for this reason.
The Item ID tables do not contain a column for GFI, because it is not maintainable due to the way the GFI command works. There are a lot of variants of significant character sequences for a single item and each of them can break when new things with similar names are added to the game, even if things are added by a mod. So we basically only describe how the GFI command works and let the users find out what works for them, in their situation, with all the mods that they might have installed. However there is a page GFI Codes that has a list, that is more or less complete and more or less correct. Also your addition in the notes section of the Bone Skin's page was perfectly fine.
Last but not least, my edit comment was a bit wrong, but there is no way to change/correct it. Instead of "item ids" I meant "class name". --Flachdachs (talk) 14:01, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

Probleme bei DE-Subpages[]

Hello, When creating translated pages I have a problem. In principle, it is right that I put the German version as /de subpage (at least that's the Gamepedia Wiki)? This goes so far in general pages, but in the creature pages, among other things, the infobox creature template does not work. I have created a template:infobox creature/de and there the magic word pagename, which is used as a parameter, on {{# titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|-1|-2}} changed. The icon in the info box will also be found, but not the data. On closer inspection, the Template:Dv Comparison is included for the info box. In turn, pagename is used as parameter name for the query of Module:Dv/data. My attempt to create the Template:Dv Comparison as a template:Dv Comparisonbp (for basepage) (ouch) was considered vandalism. Would it be possible to add an additional IF loop with titleparts in the Template:Dv Comparison? That would also intercept all subpages centrally. Or is there a way to give the page a variable that sets pagename to the value of titleparts (or basepagename)? Long text, I hope it is understandable. /de is right until de becomes a separate wiki (needs someone who is willing to care). We have a very strict filter that prevents a lot of spam. A side effect of trying to catch non-English spam is that non-English non-spam suffers. The filter is still subject of fine-tuning. - I see, in the meantime you discovered the creature parameter of Template:Dv comparison. So I think this problem doesn't exist anymore. But IF loop? IF decides, it doesn't loop. - The little + is not necessary, you can also just edit the page and add a == Heading == by hand. --Flachdachs (talk) 21:00, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
  1. OK, solved. I've set the creature flag for each entry Dv Comparison in the template Infobox creature/de (|creature = {{#titleparts: {{PAGENAME}} | -1 | -2 }}). It works and looks well.
  2. Is there a dictionary en <-> de for uniform translations? As soon as several people work on the translation, it would be good if the naming is consistent. If not, how can this be best done?
  3. The use of the german language (for example, on this page) is classified as vandalism. Does an admin have to work for this? Spanish seems to be working (see above).

Console commands - infinitestats[]

I noticed you re-added the paragraph about ammo, but are you really sure that that's still happening?
I saw that original comments, and tested it with several weapons, but would never get a "NO AMMO" message. Ammunition just wasn't detracted at all, and the ammo count would stay the same, whether it was a weapon had a magazine (e.g. a pistol) or not (e.g. a slingshot). Yes, I tested it some weeks ago before I added this sentence, because it was mentioned from one of the devs somewhere. And I tested it also yesterday, it is still the case for me. It stil gives you infinte amounts of ammo but ark sometimes forgets to reload your weapon correctly ... you can easy switch between weapons or put it away and re enable the weapon to get full ammo back -- Genie451 (talk) 08:34, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
I've done some more testing, and it does behave quite differently between different types of weapons. So, perhaps to make it clear what happens when, how about we phrase it like this:
When firing weapons in infinitestats mode, no ammo is consumed from the inventory.
For weapons with magazines, bullets are removed from the magazine though. Once it is empty, and the "NO AMMO" message appears on the screen, it can be reloaded by either opening/closing the inventory or by switching weapons.
Activating reload (as mentioned in the original note) doesn't really seems to be necessary; once you open/close the inventory the reload action already happens. (It also reloads automatically if you open/close the inventory while the magazine is still partially full, but I don't think we need to mention that much detail.) So I say the notification about my edit. You said how to tame is down described in it's own section. Okay the reason why I made the edit was because descriptions like that have been placed in the Infoboxes for the Trilobite, the Leech, the Coelacanth, the Piranha and the Sabertooth Salmon. So I thought way not the Titanoboa but if it's allowed with Titanoboa then way is it allowed for the other animals that I have just named.

Trilobite and Leech give a description in their Infoboxes that say Tamable using fish basket. While Sabertooth Salmon, Piranha and Coelacanth Infoboxes say can be kept and released in a fish basket. The Wyvern Infobox also gives a description that says adults cannot be tamed, but wild eggs can be hatched. I have some cousins who have played Ark who thought that Titanoboa's can't be tamed. So I thought that something need to be added to Infobox so that people see what is needed to see what is needed to tame a Titanoboa.

Also would okay for me to ask does the Titanoboa count as passive and non-violent tame because you feed fertilized eggs. The reason why I'm asking this because the Titanoboa's page doesn't say what kind of tame it is. I mean the Infobox for the Hyaenodon which is tamed by petting says it is a passive tame and description for the page says non-violent. Also the Troodon which is tamed by giving it live animals it's Infobox says passive tame while the description says it is a non-violent tame. So would the Titanoboa fall into the passive tame because there no mention of it being a violent where you have to knock it out and then drop a fertilized egg on the ground and waiting for it to wake up to eat the fertilized egg.

While checking out the Titanoboa's edits I noticed box come up and say that you are a wiki guardian. Now I have heard of admins but I don't know what a wiki guardian is. Anyway I just think the Titanoboa needs more information about it's taming is a passive tame or is it violent tame. JamesEdwardFrank (talk) 09:19, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

The information whether it count as passive or non-violent isn't that helpful on its own (nevertheless I added it). Because the taming method of the Titanoboa is something special it is useful to give the player a hint. So I also added a link to the taming section. Thanks for pointing out.

Standing Torches[]

Base game does have improved BPs, I had an ascendant torch BP in an Official Server once way way back, and even ran around with people who had a bunch of torch BPs that were of different varieties. We used JM torches often so we wouldn't need to repair constantly and dropped them around for longer duration trails. This was about 2 years ago though.

I can agree with the signature removal though, I wanted to put it there so that people would know to correct the information if I had some wrong. I have no idea how to use wiki text stuff, so hopefully this talk page thing works right. --VasVadum (talk) 06:41, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Ok, I had a look in the loot tables and couldn't find BPs with quality for the Standing Torch. Of course you can in a vanilla installation cheat a lot of items with a better quality, even if they are not available in normal game play. If there was an event that made improved blueprints available then it should be mentioned in this way. Otherwise people searching for these BPs forever and accuse the wiki for giving wrong information. Feel free to add the event when they were available.
It is not usual to attribute additions/changes in the content pages. For reader this information is not that useful but disturbs the flow of reading. To see who made which changes each page has a history. --Flachdachs (talk) 08:09, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
I'll see if I can find such an event again, its been a long time after all. I don't think it was an event but, who knows. I just remember it being a thing in the official server I was in (which no longer exists I believe). I think he was talking about the standing torches being lit with carriable torches. It is indeed a resource saving and it lasts a lot longer then sparkpowder or most alternatives. It also costs a lot less. I used to put up a bit of info k nthe matter and it got removed. Yet standing torches last a lot longer with higher qyeslity torches being used. That is what my post being removed is also about. Kinda hope you can help put it back. Because it dit indeed last as long as it put it there. The better quality torches lasted longer but I didn't have any at the time I tested their time. StrategyMamber (talk) 14:42, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Adding Resources / Obelisks to Wiki Maps[]

I was wondering how to add resources like silk to our map, we tried copying one of the other resources in & changeing the names to silk but this just shows "Silk" in the legend without a coloured dot and silk does not show up at the coordinates on the map. Also, our map, has four obelisks Red, Green, Blue and Yellow. For now we are using the underwater dome for the Yellow obelisk and renaming it Yellow Obelisk but it would be nice to have a propper Yellow one for our map.

You can add unknown resources and they "appear" on the map, but they are invisible due to the lack of CSS style information in Widget:MapStyles. Widgets are only admin-writeable because of the abuse potential when inserting raw code to the page output. I can add the CSS when you give me the name of the resource types and a color value for them. --Flachdachs (talk) 14:06, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

More Adding Resources to Wiki Maps[]

Would it be, at all, possible to add cave variations of all extinction and aberration resources to the wiki ResourceMap template (for example if I add "| 11.7, 39.9, gem-green cave" I can see the dots & they switch on & off with the cave checkbox toggle but I get the text "not or wrong specified" on the tool tip lable). Sorry if its a pain, we've got some demanding peeps on the map:-)

Scorched Earth Locations...[]

I noticed that when I was using the widget map for Scorched, there are a lot more locations that were once connected; they also have no content on them, whats up with that? 15:44, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Can't figure out how to edit Engrams or the Maps[]

Well the first thing was that I noticed the Blue obelisk is in the wrong location on the Ragnarok map, and I couldn't figure out how to move it. But thats not really a huge deal I guess.

The other thing is I spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out how to edit this template stuff, which appears to be ridiculously complex or even impossible to do with my lack of wiki editing skills. I've been trying to figure out how to add Engram Classnames to the end of each item on the Engrams page, so that you can get the Classnames in a nice organized list. I also wished to add the Engram Classnames to every item on the wiki the same way it has the cheat codes, but I can't even figure out how to edit that spot on those pages. I even found one thats wrong (smoke grenade spawns a tek grenade) but, this wiki stuff is too advanced for me.

Is there a chance you can show me how I can add some information or to start doing this update? Its quite a large update and I'm sure that someone like yourself would likely be too busy to go around editing all the pages to add this stuff. I mean if you decide to do it yourself then great but yea. I didn't like the Engram Classnames page considering it just shoves them all in one list and I can't just pull the "newly added" things out and add them.

I also had a thought on adding when an item was created so that people can see when it was added too. Maybe via its update number, sort of like.. (Example Below)

The template syntax is quite complex, but that is due to the task that we try to solve with the templates. Also the language is declarative and harder to manage than an imperative programming language. Additionally some/most templates are not written with readability in mind. On the other hand this can mostly be done with adding tons of HTML comments, which is not less cumbersome.
The Engram Classnames page is there for technical reasons. I don't see the need to add more in-game relevant information, as this information exists already at better places in the wiki. However, a "what's new" might be useful in this case. - Whether or not we need the engram classname on item pages is debatable. I don't think it will add useful information for the majority of the readers.
The gfi codes are not very reliable, because every new item and every mod can change what a significant part of an items's blueprintpath is. --Flachdachs (talk) 09:48, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
Well the classnames page is fine to an extent, I sorted by ID to figure out what was new, hopefully no one inserted new engrams anywhere inside any missing IDs like what happens sometimes when devs reserve a few numbers to keep things close together. However, there are several server owners that could benefit from having the engrams on the pages. It may not benefit a ton of people, sure but we want to help people run good quality servers to keep the game going, yea? At the very least we should add these to the "engrams" page its self so that it will be easy to find which engram goes to what item rather than having us go to the Engram Classname page, and having to have the Engrams page open too, in order to see relevant information. The Engrams page looks far nicer than the bland basic Classnames page which just looks like someone took a script to export the information from the game and pastes it to the page.
I assume that the template on the Engrams page pulls data from each item page, yea? So if you were to add a spot on each page to show the Engram Classname, hidden like the "cheats" are (and on the tek pages it has engram unlock codes), you could have the Engrams page simply pull from there. Yea? Plus the "added by v220.0" on pages can be added to the page as well letting us know what version of the game a thing was added. As an example, I quit Ark for about 6 months, and came back having to do tons of updates because many things were added. I needed to go all the way back to the version I had last updated to, and work up from there finding all the new items and saddles and whatnot. It was annoying because there was no page for me to group everything, then go find the classnames of things that were added since then but after a week of tweaking and fixing and finding, I finally got it all.
I'd still like to correct the gfi cheat for that item for people later on, I just can't figure out how to get to it. I click edit and its just some reference or template or whatever. Too advanced for me to get to for sure.

You are right, the Engram Classnames table is generated using a script and the game files data. Such a script is very easy to maintain. Even the Engrams page's content was created by a script before we changed it to get the information from the wiki's database Cargo, which itself collects the info from the pages. But I prepared the necessary templates, so someone can now go through all the item pages and add the two parameters engramclassname and engramindex to the Infobox. After this is done we can rewrite the Engram Classnames page to show the values from the database.
The information in the infobox is generated by the Infobox templates. In the page of an item (or creature) there is only a call of one of the Infobox templates, followed by a list of parameters. To change the value of one parameter just edit its value. E.g.
{{Infobox item
 | other things = ...
 | gfi = atv
 | other things = ...
could be the gfi value for the ATV. Assuming this is not the right value change it like
{{Infobox item
 | other things = ...
 | gfi = buggy
 | other things = ...

I found a mistake in the Untameable Creatures Category[]

Hey I would like to say thank you for helping me the last time we talked. But anyway aside from tanking you I noticed a mistake that needs to be fixed. Tek Parasaur and Tek Stegosaurus are under the category of untameable creatures and I tamed two Tek Parasaurs and two Tek Stegos this year in 2019. So if you can get around to changing and fixing that mistake I think I great.

Also I found another mistake with the Tek Parasaur and Tek Stegosaurus they are under the category of creatures that are immune to torpor. It say they are immune to torpor but I was able to knock them out with tranquilizer arrows. This mistakes need to be fixed.

Tek Parasaur and Tek Stegosaurus appear under the letter T right before Titanomyrma. I can only find the untameable category after I type Ark Untameable Creatures in the Google search bar. The Google search take me to the untameable category on this wiki site.

I know that it's a bug when I here someone say something the first time I listen, read and hear what is said. I am the kind of person if I see it with my own eyes then I believe that it's there. That's just and I am wanting to see the bug get fixed.
Another mistake that I found that needs to be fixed is the Sabertooth Salmon the link to Wikipedia takes people to the Oncorhynchus which is just a Salmon. But the real world and real life Sabertooth Salomon is called Oncorhynchus rastrosus. But I am certain that the mistakes that I mention probably won't be fixed and I am sure that no one will reply back.
Oncorhynchus is the species name of Sabertooth Salmon and is sometimes referred to in that way. So the Wikipedia link is correct. Also, please sign your posts. No it's not because I checked the link and the linked page says Pacific Salmon not Sabertooth Salmon. My link say Sabertooth Salmon and it says that the Sabertooth Salmon is related to the Oncorhynchus AKA the Pacific Salmon. But you don't want to listen or fix the mistake because that would probably be to much work and take time out of your busy schedule. Also I was trying to get help from Flachdachs that is why I left a message the person's wall. Why did you both to join in if you aren't going do anything seems to me like you don't want the mistakes fixed.

P.S. I have checked the links read the pages the Oncorhynchus page on Wikipedia says Pacific Salmon while my link to the Oncorhynchus rastrosus page on Wikipedia says Sabertooth Salmon. The Sabertooth Salmon has the wrong link on it's page[]

Here this wiki the Sabertooth Salmon's page has a link to a page Oncorhynchus AKA the Pacific Salmon which is a living species today. But the Oncorhynchus rastrosus is the real name for the Sabertooth Salmon the Wikipedia page on the Oncorhynchus rastrosus says it is extinct. Wikipedia says that the Oncorhynchus rastrosus AKA the Sabertooth Salmon lived in Late Miocene, it also lived and died out in the Early Pliocene.

So the Oncorhynchus link in the notes/trivia is incorrect the correct name, correct species and correct link to Wikipedia is the Oncorhynchus rastrosus and not the regular Oncorhynchus. JamesEdwardFrank (talk) 2:52, February 4 2019 (UTC)

Is it possible to add multiple highlighted locations for a interactive map? For example:

| regionmap2 = Northern East Badlands (Scorched Earth)

page for Environmental[]

Hello Flachdachs I was wondering if it was possible to create a page named Environmental and merge the Weather & Temperature pages with it? This came up while I was adding stuff to the Biomes page and realized that stuff like Electromagnetic Waves from Extinction didn't have its own page. some other examples of stuff that could go on said page are Environmental hazards like Lava,Radiation and Meteor Showers as well as Environmental events like Solar Eclipses from Extinction. 20:06, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Hey so I turned Plants page into a disambiguation and forgot to consider {Categories}. I was going to ask administration if someone could create the Plants Category. Doesn't creating a page affect the search, instead it creates a instant direct to the page? Anyways, I don't know how to rename pages so I moved the info from Plants to Plants in Ark (it might of been a stupid move). Keep calm, nobody is hurt ;) For now I restored the former content of Plants, a lot of pages link there. I don't know what you want to achieve. But I think you should just add the information you think that is worth to know about plants in general. Okay, I moved the former plant info to my new page Gardening, there I had the idea to turn Plants into a disambiguation but then I realized, that I was going to ask for a Plant Category then realized the page might over all effect the search engine.. Gardening is only a part of the plants in Ark, there are a lot more than the cultivatable crops. A page about plants should say something about them all, trees, bushes, crops, plant species xyz, maybe mushrooms, and those that I forgot. TamingTables needed for some creature pages[]

I want to thank you for your help when I asked which is why I asking you if there is a way to make TamingTables for the Otter, Hesperornis, Phoenix, Hyaenodon. Telling people how long it takes to tame Hesperornis and Others at different levels with dead fish. Also to help people know how long it takes to tame a Phoenix with fire from a flamethrower, fire arrows and Fire Wyvern depending on the level of the Phoenix. Also so people know how long to pet a Hyaenodon with different levels.

I ask if you can do this since you have been helpful in the past. Also I am thinking that anyone else will probably just end up being rude. So let know what you can do because those pages have been needing TamingTables for a while. Plus I don't know how to make new TamingTables for the wiki. JamesEFrank (talk) 4:57 March 31 2019

I can't, I don't know the formulas. And because these creatures have special taming methods the TamingTable template can't be applied. If you know the data just create a simple table. You can use the Visual Editor, although this guy has some drawbacks, it's better than nothing. Also how to create tables by handwritten code is described in the MediaWiki documentation. You don't need to find someone specific to create the final representation. It can be changed or corrected later. Creatures in the wrong areas[]

Weaponry VS Recommended Tames tabs[]

So me and another administrator TheWaywardWolf got into a argument and he's arguing that the weaponry tab is necessary but I don't think so.

I've made a new custom and more efficient kind of tab called the Recommended Tames tab that I use for bosses which replaces the Weaponry

The reason why I made it is because Weaponry isn't all that helpful when used in boss pages as it can just as easily go into the strategy tabs and not take up nearly as much room

He argues tames are weaponry but if that's the case then there's honestly no need for either Weaponry or Recommended Tames as they would both fit under the strategy tab

Yes for normal creatures it's more useful because they don't pose as much of a threat and you can be vastly more flexible with it but for bosses in general the new tab I made is far more efficient at organizing information to make it easier on the web sites visitors and improving the site as a whole

weaponry: can list tames and weapons however you can just do that in strategy and list ways you can use said equipment. 2.just because people have been using it for long doesn't mean it's the end all be all solution, there can be better methods at organizing a page and the Recommended Tames tab will help the wiki in general.

Recommended tames: 1.Helps Players visiting the site to gather useful information without it being in one large cluster.

2.Due to the large amount of tames a recommended tames tab would be far more efficient and noticeable

3.i have set up rules for this tab to where it isn't permitted to add things that are exclusive to a Expansion Pack to make fair suggestions (Velonasaurs on the island wouldn't be allowed for example because people would then have to buy extinction which not everyone will have the money for) so it's not like I don't care about the tab, I want what's best for players and I know that if I was visiting this tab and I wanted info on bosses this tab would make it far easier on me to help me overcome the boss. mentioned Weaponry fits perfectly into the strategy tab and if you want to list some basic strategies that's fine however having the Weaponry tab is a waste of space and just causes too much of a cluster on the pages.

I tried reasoning with him about the uses this new tab could have and how efficient it would be but he blocked me and now I can't edit or try reasoning so hopefully you can help me out. If so thank you. Scribelord24 (talk) 15:34, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
